Christmas Console Table Styling

Tips for Styling your Console Table for the holidays

Now that December is here I hope you are enjoying pulling out all your holiday decor getting your home feeling festive for the season.

I recently purchased this gorgeous solid wood console table for our hallway. Prior to adding on our addition this year I didn't have anywhere to put a console table. So when the space became available I was on the hunt for the perfect table and found this one. I never rush into buying large specific pieces for our home. I take my time, compare and make sure it functions well for our needs.

A console table creates a mood in your home bringing it to life. How you style it makes each home unique. There are a few ways we can do this that I revert to each time I style mine not matter the time of year that brings personality and function together.

My tips for styling a Christmas console table...

1. Choosing the right one for your space

First, make sure to measure the space and choose the correct size (WxLxH). You don't want it to stick out too far that it blocks you passing by or too short on a long wall.

2. Start with the larger pieces first, it makes the rest easier

Adding a large standing piece sets the stage.

If your table is in a hallway you may choose a lamp for a warm ambience. If a lamp isn't neccessary a piece of large artwork with a cozy winter scene would be pretty and eye catching or a tall tree next to your table as seen in my display to add height.

3. Adding accessories

Be intentional with the pieces you add. Are you creating a theme or a scene?

ex. christmas village, bringing the outdoors in, displaying family holiday photos as a gallery...

You want to add accessories like vases, faux trees, ceramic houses, photo frames and candles of varing heights and sizes. Then, group together in sets of at least 2 or 3's. When adding height on one end of the table to MUST balance out the other side as well. As you can see in my display I have a tall tree and a tall lamp on each end for height consistency.

4. Ground the bottom of your table.

If you are styling an console that is open underneath I like to balance the bottom for visual weight. You can add hanging stockings, stools or a bench for extra seating, large Christmas decor such as standing deer or a basket for extra cozy throw blankets.

*As a rule of thumb, make sure whatever items you style on the bottom are tall enough to leave only a small space between them and the top of the console.

TIP: if you don't like the colour of light in your christmas village add fairy lights inside or around them in the colour you do like!
