I think many of us have a bit of an obsession with throw pillows! I know I definitely do! But they really aren't the easiest to store when we want change things up on our couch or seating arrangements. So I prefer quality inserts and covers that I can change out easily every season and holiday.

There are a few simple ways I would like to help you out with choosing the right ones for your space. Below you can follow my tips and "how to's" for pillows when you decide your home needs a little change.

Your Simple Guide to Throw Pillows:

1. Stick with an overall colour scheme

When I say colour scheme I don't mean it has to be the exact same colours and all
matchy matchy. But the TONES do need to be the same. If you prefer cooler blues and greens or warm beige and tans then stick to what you have around you.
Follow the scheme you already have in place around your home. Within your artwork, rugs and throws. This will create consistency and flow throughout your home.

2. Mix Patterns and Textures

You can absolutely mix it up using plaids, stripes, solids, and florals. I know it doesn't see natural to pair them together but trust me they can be very complimentary to eachother so go ahead and try it!

3. Style in Numbers

In order for a room to feel balanced step back and make sure you have placed them in groups evenly on each side of the room. I like to group them in 2's or 3's. If you group too many though it will feel chaotic.

4. Appropriate sizing

When placing pillows together you want to use varying sizes. The majorty of pillow covers come in 20x20 because it's a safe and common size. If you like a defined and deep KARATE chop then maybe try a 22x22 cover on a 20x20 inner cushion. If you want your pillow to stand more straight and structured then go for a tight exact fit. Just don't go too small.

5. Type of Insert and Cover Matters

The filling of a pillow insert really is a personal choice. If you have allergies, want to be ecofriendly or just prefer one over the other. Which ever you choose just note that it does change how a pillow looks and feels! Feather filled will hold its shape better and longer. Stay away from thin fabrics or low quality. Those feathers will poke through. Use high quality fabrics to avoid the feathers getting out.
